Question Which Speakon Cable

Sign in to disble this ad
I have my lovely light MB210 and after advice here I have ordered the 210MBE extension this morning

I will obviously need a Speakon cable to connect them, but unfortunately I have zero experience of these.

From googling I see that there are 2 pole and 4 pole versions of these and for most uses the 4 pole seems to be recommended but I can't find anywhere that tells me whether a 4 pole will work with this set up or whether I should get a basic 2 pole.

(I understand that there will be no advantage in this situation of a 4 pole but it may give me more flexibility if I change my rig later)

Standard 2-pole speakon will do it. Regarding their manual, the speaker output is wired +1 and -1, no need to use a 4-pole cable (but it might be useful in the future, as you said).

Gauge is important as well. Remember that a lower number means a thicker cable that can carry a load a longer distance. Mine are typically 16 gauge.

Also, no need to go with fancy brands. I buy mine from an eBay retailer, many folks make their own.

Agreed, but you you want genuine Neutrik Speakon connectors on it. The Chinese knockoffs are often sub-standard, I have had trouble with them, and have heard of jacks damaged by them.

+1 and a good point. Any decently made cable will do but the Neutrik connectors are a must.

Make sure you buy cables with the four pole version of the plugs. The have become the standard.

I have ordered this one:
Cable - Neutrik speakON NL4FX 4-Core Speaker Lead (2M) [#00459] (5060174504594) | eBay
Thanks for all your help.

Ignore this below - I have started a new thread
Probably not worth starting a new thread for this...
The MB210 came with a Euro power cord, no problem as I have plenty of UK cords here - but what fuse should I use (Euro plugs don't contain a fuse)?

Max 580W @ 230V = >2.5A, so a 3A fuse should be good?

Four pole seem to have become somewhat of a standard. I would recommend using the four pole wired +1 and -1.
