Speakon Cable?.....for GK MB500 Head & MBE Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Hosa SKO-403 (3') | Sweetwater.com

Just got these and found out that only Speakon Cable can be used. However, it seems GK claims that their 'GK 4 Conductor Cable must be used'.....(or a standard 2 Conductor).

I can't find a GK....Will this be ok?

Thanks in advance!

You don't need the G-K 4 conductor with the MB500! That one should work fine. IIRC the MB500 has a combo speakon connector and a 1/4" plug works in the center of the speakon on the amp?

Thanks for your reply!

Here's the 'addendum' that was added to the manual.

It says....

"The Speakon output (#11 - on diagram) no longer supports the connection of 1/4" cables.

Standard 2 conductor or GK 4 conductor, twist-lock Speakon must be used."

Ah thanks was not aware they stopped using the combo connector. That cable you linked should still work fine though. Most new 2 conductor speakons are still 4 conductor connectors with only the 1+,1- connections used.

Since this HOSA is 'unbalanced' - will that degrade the signal, even though it's only 3' of cable?

(I've never used 'Speakon' cables).

They included a 1/4" cable with the GK500 Amp Head, but I guess that was meant for the footswitch.

I was really looking forward to trying my new rig out tonight!.....never expected I absolutely needed a Speakon.

Anyway,...thanks again for the help!

Speaker cables are never "balanced", that is used in low level signals only (like mike or pa rack interconnect cables). After you insert the cable with the silver pull tab at about 10:00 turn the connector clockwise till it locks. To remove the cable, slip the silver tab towards you with your thumb and twist the connector counter-clockwise and pull it out. It is a very secure connection that won't fall out and is non-shorting when inserting and removing (they handle a lot more current than 1/4" phone plugs too).

They do make speakon to 1/4" adapters but I don't know if they would be any easier to find where you are located? That would at least get you playing if you already have a 1/4" speaker cable (not the one in the amp box).
