Speakon cable prices?

Sign in to disble this ad
Jeez man, come on. $30 for a 5 foot cable? Speakon ends are $3 each. 12 gauge speaker cable is free, because I already have some. So what's the difference in a Speakon cable I can make and a Speakon cable I can buy?

there is none ime. I prefer making my own because you can then make the cable to your specs (gauge, ends, length, color) is usually cheaper and when you make your own you will also know better how to fix it when it breaks (if?)

Speakons are easy to make. The ends sell for just under $8 per, buy some cable at the local hardware store (romax, extension cords, whatever) 16 g for short runs bigger doesn't hurt. You can make that cable for less than $20

$30 isn't unreasonable considering the manufacturer and the dealer have to make a profit.

Oh I love word problems.

$30 - 2($3) = $24.

The difference is $24!

Audiophile Pro Audio has the NL2FC ends for $3.50, though the NL2FC ends work easier with thinner gauge than thicker.

I make my own speakon cables, I got a 50 foot 12 Gauge Speakon to Banana Plug cable for 99 cents when Brook Mays was going out of business. So I've been just slowly cutting up that cable to make smaller ones.

As others have said Speakons are really easy to make, no soldering required.

I've been buying NL4FX ends, I forgot about the two conductor version. $3.50 is a great price.

Make your own. They're the same, except you'll have a better warranty if you do it.

A word of caution if I may. Every piece of commercially made equipment that I own that came with Speakons installed came with the four pole variety. I standardized the same way. While a two pole plug will fit into a four pole socket the reverse does not.
