Speakon vs 1/4" output wattage

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I was wondering, if an amp head with 750W on 2ohm (eden WT-550 for example) on the 1/4" jack output, how much wattage is the speakon connector going to deliver?

I have a Warwick wca 811 (8x10" 1600W) and it says it needs 4/8 ohm.
pic: http://www.gear4music.com/media/20759/600/preview.jpg

eden outputs: 750W/2ohm, 500W/4ohm, 300W/8ohm
(still looking for an amp head, tips are welcome )

thanks!

The speakon will provide you with 750w @ 2ohms according to my intricate calculations.

a 1/4" and a speakon will deliver the same output. the speakon is just a better and more robust connector.

but since the cabinet says:
2*410/2*8Ohm
1*810/1*4Ohm
Will I be getting 4, 8, or still get the 2 Ohm delivered?

Your cab either can be run as a single 4ohm cabinet, or you can use each half as a 8ohm 4x10 (together for a 4ohm load), or you can use only half the cab for a 8ohm load.

So it's a 4ohm cab.

It'll never present a 2ohm load.

Why? 500 watts into 8 10" speakers is a WHOLE lot of sound, more than you will probably be able to take advantage of!

I know, but If I pay the same amount of money for an amp that can output 1100W at 4Ohm (HARTKE LH-1000), I suppose that'll be more future proof :P especially when I'm adding another 8x10

That 1600 W rating is a thermal limit, not usable power.

ONLY if the LH-1000 will accept a 2 ohm load! Two 4 ohm 810 cabs make a 2 ohm load to the amp head. If the amp head is not rated for a 2 ohm load you will be looking for a repair shop or a new amp.

B-String. It's not a 2ohm cab. Its a 4 ohm cab or 2x8ohm 4x10's in one box.

I understand it does -- something like 545 W each side at 2 ohms, and 1100 W 4 ohms bridged.

Yes, if you connect a 4-ohm load to this amp, based on the spec's you provided, it will give you a maximum rated output of 500W.

so which of these would you recommend to me?
HARTKE LH-1000 (1000W @ 4Ohm) tube pre
MARKBASS LITTLE MARK TUBE 800 (800W @ 4 Ohm) tube pre
ORANGE TERROR BASS 1000 (1000W @ 4Ohm) tube pre

Or would you recommend something else?

Why stop there? Fill the stage with 810 cabs, and buy the biggest power amp you can find. Otherwise, one of your audience members might escape with part of his hearing intact.

If you're looking at running 2 x 810s, weight and pack space clearly isn't an issue, so I would be looking at a racked pre- and power amp rig. The world is your oyster.

Well for now I would want a head to support just the 8x10 I already own, but next year in august we have a show in a very big stadium, so it will look a lot nicer if there are 2 8x10's placed next to each other. Most of the time it'll be played with a single 8x10

So to get the full 2 ohm output he will need 4 4 ohm 810 cabs, 2 on each side. or his one 4 ohm 810
