Splitting wattage question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a question that I cannot find the answer to anywhere on the Internet. If I have two of the same cabs, and I have a 1000w head, my cabs will both receive 500w each, correct? Now, if both cabs receive 500w, won't they not be as loud as a single cab receiving 1000w? I'm not sure, it just seems that I would be losing wattage.

Thanks

2 speakers sharing the load will always be louder and more efficient than one. Acoustic coupling will add approximately 3db.

Also, depending on the specs of the speaker (the T/S parameters - NOT the wattage thermal rating) feeding a speaker double the wattage will most likely NOT result in added volume. Speakers are limited by their physical ability to displace air, adding additional power when already at capacity just causes compression, heat, and burning out of speakers.

I understand now, lol. So assuming the single cab can handle the 1000w, it still wouldn't be louder because two cabs ARE infact louder. Lol.... Thanks for the reply, you saved me much confusion

Yep.................

A speaker functions like a piston. It displaces air by pumping in/out. When you have two identicle speakers, you are doubling the amount of air that can be moved.
