stacking cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just bought an avatar 2x10 and I want to stack my GK Rb 400 combo on top of it. The GK weighs almost 100 pounds is this safe? Or would the wood stress and start to bend over time? Also I have quarter inch jack connectors and speaker wire from radio shack that says its 12 gauge is this ok to use to make a speaker cable?

stacking willl be fine, put avatar on top (I don't know which speaker config you have for the RB)...but spend 25 bucks and get a 4 pin Speakon cable made...

...also, how many ohms is the avatar?

I can't put the avatar on top because the GK is a combo amp and the vents are on top so the 2x10 has to be on the bottom.

If I were you, I'd get intouch with Avatar. They would be the only ones that would tell you if something that heavy should sit on that cabinet.

I can't comment on the cable except that you might just want to make sure to buy a new SPEAKER cable.

I sit on my Avatar B210 and I weight 250lbs.... That thing is built out of 3/4" birch ply (heavy duty) it would take something way more serious than 100lbs to do any damage. Put the GK on top and don't give it another thought, you'll be fine.

The 12 gauge wire should be fine. I would usually use that heavy of a gauge for long cables to a subwoofer or in high wattage apps in a PA but it can work for your use as well..... possibly overkill but it will work.

Assuming the GK combo is 2x10, turn it on its side and put the 2x10 vertically on top so you end up with a vertical 4x10. Gets rid of comb filtering and looks rebellious to boot.
