Stage "Thump"

The past few shows that I've used my Ampeg SVT IV head and Ampeg 6x10 cab I've noticed what to me seems like a lack of "thump" or power. Normally with GAIN at lightly clipping (say 2 o'clock) and MAIN at around 12-3 o'clock, this amp will hit you right in the chest. Boom. I had to run off of a power strip the last two shows, could this be it? Is the power strip keeping the "thunder" out of the amp? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for the occasionally room when the power supply cant be reached with the normal cable coming out of the amp?

Many Thanks!

Those power conditioners are great.

Low voltage at some venues is not uncommon. Low enough and it will affect how your amp sounds and the bias setting of a tube amp.

I use a heavy duty construction, 12 gauge, 50 foot extension cord that I got from Home Depot to get the power to the amp. You can typically find them in 50 and 100 foot lengths. Power strips can have issues.

While at a hardware store, buy one of those LED outlet testers for a couple a bucks. It will tell you if your outlet is wired properly so that you can ensure that you have a safe ground before plugging in.

Avoid using coiled power cables, uncoil them into a mass if necessary. You'll see their power rating differs depending on if they are coiled or not. Being coiled makes them a big air cored inductor.

Constant opposing magnetic fields cancels any inductance. Unless you are running each leg as a single wire and combining at the socket?

Thanks for the suggestions gents, ill get a chance to play it out again next week. I'm hoping that its the power strip impeding the necessary current to make the amp thunder. The Furman power conditioner looks incredible. $500 bucks, but incredible.
