Question Stereo Bass Amp Setup

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here uses a stereo input setup for their live gigs.

I was trying to find a small/light head with stereo inputs and outputs, but I'm guessing I will have to go with 2 small combo's.

Here's a clip of what I would like to play live. I'm just using my studio monitors and the highs are OK, but the bass is really missing.

YouTube - From Here

Most of the stereo effects don't come in till the 2nd half.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Andre

Are you talking about stereo or bi-amping where you send the highs to one speaker array and the lows to another?

Beautiful playing man! I really am diggin' it. A nice Cockspur rum punch and I'd be staying for while.

I've used stereo rigs live for decades now. Just start with a regular bass rig on one side and a little cab with lows cut on the other. It doesn't take much through the little cab to give nice ambience.

Here's one of my bigger rigs, but frankly it's too much hassle to haul...

Sansamp + two amps

The easiest way IMO is to get a Sansamp Bassdriver and use two combos for your amps. Since the Sansamp has two parallel outputs, one affected by the effects and one unaffected, you can run the affected signal into one combo and the clean signal into the other.
Since the Bassdriver’s strength is in adding overdrive (or distortion) to the mids and uppers mids, running the affected signal to a 2x10 combo while running the clean signal to a 15” combo would be ideal, IMO. This was you keep a good fat foundation while adding some good drive to your other “leaner” combo.
Another effective speaker combination for this setup would be a 2x12 on the bottom (clean) amp and a 1x12 on the affected amp. That would be killer!
Keep in mind you have total control over the EQ and amount of distortion going into the affected amp with the Sansamp. It doesn't have to be a dirty signal. The whole point of it is you have two completely different sounds coming out of one bass. How you combine them is all you.
