Stereorigging different OHMS to Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
He Guys,

Just a quick question:
I own a Phonic MAX 860 amp. It comes with a two channel Stereo/parallel mode (300Watt@4ohms). Aswell as a Bridge-mode (600Watt@8ohms).

Is it save to use the Stereomode (using the two channels) to connect two cabinets of different impedance?

The two cabs are specced:
- 4x10" ampeg b-series: 400 watt@4 ohm
- 1x15" peavey black widow: 350 watts RMS continuous, 700 watts program@8ohms.

Or do i damage my speaker/amp using this set up?

It's probably a stupid question... I tried to look it up, but i only seem to find set ups for two of the same cabinets.

You'd be very helpful if you could answer this.

Thanks in advance,
Walter

Each channel can use one speaker. As long as the load on each channel is 4 ohms or higher it will be fine.
Only thing is the 4 ohm cab will get 300w,
The 8 ohm cab will get less like maybe in the 180-200w ballpark.

The 4 ohm cab will be louder but you can use the L/R pan to balance it if needed.

Don't run it in bridge mode with both cabs. It can only do the one 8ohm cab if bridged or you can damage the amp.

OK.....Now that you're really sure, you can go set your gear on fire!

Haha, will do!

Btw: If i ever wanted to get more power out of the Peavey (in the setting as mentioned), could i just replace the 8ohms impedance with a 4ohms? or would that screw up my cones/cabinet?
