stewart world 2.1 hookup

okay so i recently got a stewart world 2.1 and an ashly bp-41 pre and i want to know the best way to hook it up. the ashly has a "stage amp" output, which is a 1/4" and can be line or instrument level, and it's also got a DI which can be pre or post eq and line or mic level and is either 1/4" or xlr. since it only has one output for the "stage amp" i can only plug that into one side of the stewie and then only get signal to on half of it. is there a way to bridge the inputs without bridging the poweramps? i tried doing the whole thing bridged and after a couple minutes of playing one of the power amps would shut off (i have adequate space around the amp for cooling and i followed the bridging instructions in the amp). i have 2 8 ohm cabs so i figured the best thing to do would be to use one side of the amp for each cab (cant do that because the pre can only plug in to one side at a time), otherwise daisy chain the cabs and bridge the amps (when i do this one of the amps shuts off). anyways, any help would be appreciated. thanks a bunch!

Use a "Y" chord (single 1/4" plug at one end, and two 1/4" plugs at the other end). You should be able to find one at you music store or Radio Shack. Just make sure they are all mono plugs (not stereo).

This may help with figuring out the Ashly. Yes, I live to serve others.

Sounds like it doesn't like the loads you are presenting it. Could be overheating and going into protect. You could have a faulty channel.

What happens if you run the amp stereo? Does the same channel cut out?

If the amp is fan cooled is the cooling tunnel choked with crud?

Regarding the amp shutting down, I'm guessing that either your cabs are not 8 ohm, or you have them hooked up incorrectly. Do you have the instructions for the Stewart amp?

For Bridged Mono operation, the top left red terminal (Channel 1 +) connects to the speaker (+) terminal and the top right red terminal (Channel 2 +) connects to the speaker (-) terminal.

If you want to connect your two 8-ohm cabs using Bridged Mono, you'll need to find a way to connect them both to the top terminals as I've described. I use banana plugs that can connect into each other.

I've also marked the two red terminals with (+) and (-) so I'll remember if I'm using the Bridged Mono mode.

Good Luck.

JD

shouldn't i just be able to daisy chain the cabs together and then plug one of them into the output the way it describes in the manual for bridge mono operation?

When you bridge with this 4 ohm load (two 8 ohm cabs in parallel) each side of the amp is seeing 2 ohms. Most solid state amps struggle with a 2 ohm load. There's a good chance you have thermal protection cutting in to prevent damage.

Try some experiments: on the side that shuts down, use both speakers (in stereo mode) so that side's seeing 4 ohms instead of 2. Play it loud and see if it shuts down.

Now, try running stereo with both cabs on a channel of their own (using the Y cable you're about to buy!). You'll probably only get a little bit less volume than in bridge mode and the tone might even slightly improve. If you like that mode, stick to it. This was your first idea and is still the best, IMO.

That's simply not true of a huge number of pro power amps of every class that I've used. I can't say whether this particular Stewart is having problems of this nature, but -
