As title says. Both these heads seem 2 be going 4 a similar thing. What would u choose and why? |

| | Registered User Endorsing: Ampeg | | Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Apopka, FL | | | i can get overdrive out of pedals and i always have a fairly clean sound as my basic sound, so full on drive is not very important to me as much as a little slight breakup is, and i can get that out of the ampeg stuff. so if you take into consideration how killer the micro vr is, and the price point these pf heads come in at (not to mention the purple logo light), i think they're going to be pretty huge. the micro vr has the svt sound nailed in a micro format, and i expect more of the same with the pf heads.
otoh, andy looks like he's going balls out with these streamliners. they cost over twice as much, but they're pretty beefed up with toobz. no idea how it'll sound but i've yet to hear tubes do anything except improve the sound of an amp. any amp that lets you choose between tube and no tube sounds better with the tube, as long as it's not one of those show tubes that are there just to light up. i don't think you can expect the same amount of smackdown from a tube preamp in a micro as a full-on tube amp, but i'm a fan of tube pres, and andy is promising a goodly amount of whomp.
as for me, my gear budget for the year is spoken for already, so it's all moot. plus i don't want to get caught short of cash when ampeg does more b-15's like i did this run.

Both of those heads sounded very good at NAMM, but of course NAMM is a notoriously bad place to audition gear. The Streamliners can definitely get more overdrive going, if that's your cup of tea, but that PF500 does offer up a lot of bang for the buck at just $399. |
