as neither of these products are out yet, i think it's a bit premature to choose between them. i would think waiting until they're out and people have heard them first would be a more appropriate plan of action. both companies are terrific imho and you'll never hear me say a bad word about either. but a little soon to be comparing the two.

Think the eq on the portaflex sounds more flexible.

I'm leaning toward the streamliner for features. That 3 gaincontrol let me suspect from very clean to very grindy. And I love the simple 3 band with 3 midpoints.

I've yet to hear a S.S./hybrid Ampeg that overdrives ANYWHERE near nicely. So I'd pick the GB on what I've (not) heard so far

i can get overdrive out of pedals and i always have a fairly clean sound as my basic sound, so full on drive is not very important to me as much as a little slight breakup is, and i can get that out of the ampeg stuff. so if you take into consideration how killer the micro vr is, and the price point these pf heads come in at (not to mention the purple logo light), i think they're going to be pretty huge. the micro vr has the svt sound nailed in a micro format, and i expect more of the same with the pf heads.

otoh, andy looks like he's going balls out with these streamliners. they cost over twice as much, but they're pretty beefed up with toobz. no idea how it'll sound but i've yet to hear tubes do anything except improve the sound of an amp. any amp that lets you choose between tube and no tube sounds better with the tube, as long as it's not one of those show tubes that are there just to light up. i don't think you can expect the same amount of smackdown from a tube preamp in a micro as a full-on tube amp, but i'm a fan of tube pres, and andy is promising a goodly amount of whomp.

as for me, my gear budget for the year is spoken for already, so it's all moot. plus i don't want to get caught short of cash when ampeg does more b-15's like i did this run.

I am also interested to hear how the pf cabs are going to sound with their rear porting. Although i really dig the look of them i have a felling i am gonna prefer a couple of the 210av's

Actually, Tom Bowlus said today that the PF cabs will be sealed. See the B-15 thread.

True story.

Both of those heads sounded very good at NAMM, but of course NAMM is a notoriously bad place to audition gear. The Streamliners can definitely get more overdrive going, if that's your cup of tea, but that PF500 does offer up a lot of bang for the buck at just $399.

Curious to hear both of these but also to know how they compare with the GK MB Fusion. Obviously the Streamliner has more power - and a higher price...
