Streamliner & Bergantino HT/EX112

I almost feel dirty starting yet another Streamliner thread, but, I'm really curious if anyone's using either a 600 or 900 with Jim's original non-ER 12" stack (which is my only cab setup at present).

I'm dying to know this too! I have the ministack and GAS for a Streamliner... help us out here if you can.

Haven't hear the Streamliner, but the Mesa Walkabout with the HT/Ex is a thing of beauty.

LOL. Actually I meant to infer that from everything I have heard about the Streamliner, I would expect it to pair wonderfully with the Berg mini stack. Those cabs love a good "tubey" tone.

Glad you took my comment as intended. Nice rig with that Walkabout. I know you can cover any gig with it. I'll have my used S900 in a week, and a gig shortly after to try it. I'll report back on this thread. OT: I kinda wish I had Jim's ER MROD. With one of my bands I wish I had a bit more bottom.

Late recap to this thread. I sold half of my mini-stack (HT112) and got a Bergantino HT-322. I'm now with a 2 cab solution: HT-322 for big gigs, EX112 for everything else. My Streamliner 900 sounded good with the ministack. Sounded better after I swapped a couple of its stock tubes (Ruby, made in china). For me, the HT/EX (again, non ER) have their limitations. I was trying/hoping to push them beyond their capabilities. It's the reason I sold my first HT/EX stack for a 410. With one particular band I needed to move more air. After a couple years I got tired of the 410, or should I say I admitted to myself that I prefer the sound of 12's or 15's. I re-purchased an HT/EX whose deal was too good to pass up. Wishful thinking though, as it only brought me back full circle with "not enough air being moved". The HT-322 has solved that dilemma. Now, if I had the money I'd have switched the HT/EX to the ER version. I didn't though, so will probably never know if the ER would've solved all my needs.

Bottom line: Streamliner with HT/EX stack is cool. The extra headroom though (900w 4ohm) just didn't seem worth it. Mr. Baer's setup makes more sense. Or... my Ashdown ABM500 with the stack was cool, but, that's a 30lb head.

Now the HT322 cab is a helluva cab, and it takes advantage of the S900's headroom. Sounds so much better than the Ashdown. You can hear the difference. The cab just seems to notice and appreciate those extra watts, class D notwithstanding.

That's my story.....

Hey Larry,

I'd be interested in hearing the STL900 with the HT322. I have an original HT/EX112 stack, and for me it's not a great match with the Streamliner. Best way I can describe it is that it has an odd tone profile. The Streamliner is a better match with the AE212, but you have to do some tube matching to get the tone right, and in tough rooms it's wise to plug one or both ports with foam, to lose a bit of boominess.

I find that I am happiest with the Streamliner running a single 15 cab, or a pair of VL110 cabs. The HT322 with that pair of 10 inch drivers and a 12 in that big box seems like it might be a very nice combination, it would certainly be a "big" sound.

I'll post a clip when I get one. Not many gigs lately. Figures, I find this great cab... no gig yet to try it!

I agree with you about the STM-900. While I said it sounds good with HT/EX, really, it wasn't a great natural match. The tube swap helped though. Lowering the gain with a 12AU7 instead of 12AX7 did help. And there was more than enough post volume to be loud. In the end I got what I wanted. Using your words a "big sound". HT322 is SO that. My buddy, neighbor, good bass player and TB'er heard the rig. He said it sounded like a 2x15. His opinion further confirmed I made the right choice. So true that not all cabs and heads like each other. I'm curious, what 15 do you use with your Streamliner?

OT: STM-900 is Genz' sku for the Streamliner. Not picking on you, but, I'm not sure how STL900 got used. Genz uses STL in their Shuttle line. I see guys using STL900 referring to a Streamliner. I was guilty myself. Someone oughta set the record straight.
