Stupid ohm question for a quasi-veteran

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there.

Got an avatar 2x12 neo and a 4x10 neo. both are 4 ohm.

Amp is a kustom groove bass 1200.

Running from one side of the amp to the 2x12, and then from the 2x12 to the 4x10 is a 2 ohm load on the amp, right? (daisy chained?)

Is it the same if i use one channel of the amp to the 12 and the other side to the 10?

I only was able to find the manual for the newer 1300 model, but assuming the 1200 is also the same monoblock design (i.e., one power amp), then yes, two 4ohm cabs will result in a 2ohm load (and I believe the 1200 is rated for safe 2ohm operation... CHECK YOUR MANUAL!).

And yes, assuming a mono block head, running each cab from the two amp power jacks is identical to 'daisy chaining' the cabs together from a single amp output jack.

2ohm operation can result in the amp running quite hot. So, if you decide to do this, make sure the amp has plenty physical room to cool down.

most probably yes: the two outputs found on most amps wire the cabs in parallel; therefore either you pick the signal from the first cab or directly from the second amp plug, it should be exactly equal.

Yes, unless your amp is stereo.
...or it is like my Nemesis NC210P that if you plug an addictional 4 ohm cab will patch it in series with the internal 4 ohm cab; so in the end it will give you a 8 ohm cab...!!!

ok, cool. Thats what I thought.

I usually just run the 4x10 and keep the 2x12 around as a keyboard cab. Only hook them both up if I really want to piss off the neighbors, or if i just want to look cooler than my guitarist.
