sugeestions for a a cab to pair w/ 3015lf eminence kappalite

Sign in to disble this ad
im running a gk 700rb- currently have the 3015lf in a glk cab- dimensions- 23.5"W x 26.5"H x 18.5"D

Using the glx 410 on top now- which is pretty lowfi compared to the rest of the rig.

When using effects/playing loudly- the 410 cracks and distorts

would like a nice punchy mid range with just a little sparkle in the highs. Would like something voiced more in the mids though. Open to any suggestions- 10's? 12's?

playing style can be heard @ www.soundcloud.com/somata

jam/rock/electronic styled stuff

last little side note- another local bas splayer says that since im running 8ohm cabs the gk 700rb is running @ 240 watts- so each cab is running with 120 watts. He seems to think im under powered with the power amp- but i normally run it on the -14 and its still louder than it needs to be...

If you're running both 8 ohm cabs at once, your net impedance is 4 ohms, therefore allowing the amp to put out the full 480 watts. Each cab would be receiving 240 watts if running at full power.

You'd need to build it or have someone build it for you, it's custom stuff.

I can't think of any pre-built cabinets that would be great for the 3015LF...all would require a custom crossover to high pass the top cab.

Parts cost around 200-250 depending on hardware bits and crossover components. Build cost, I dunno. Probably 350 to have one custom made with the crossover and a rack built in from LDS (ballpark).

Probably could build in space to carry the 700 in it if you wanted.

would that only be for sound coloration or would it add volume as well?

It would add volume above roughly 500-800hz. Below that your 3015lf has plenty of output.

what about changing the speakers on the 410 or changing the baffle for some other combination?

It's not likely to be an ideal situation.

a 20lb headcase with a 6" mid driver and a horn will provide all you need above the 5-800 hz xover. IF you want more volume under that point, add another 3015lf, or more power into 8 ohms.

cool- i like the idea of building room for the 700rb. is the 3015 in the glx cab holding back the true potential of the speaker? what differences would be realized in a fEarful enclosure?

You could also get a fEarful 15/6 built and put a low pass crossover in the old one. That'd give you a lot more juice. Kinda like BurninSkies' rig (from the fEarful thread).

I doubt you would see much huge gain moving your 3015Lf into a fEarful enclosure. Surely wouldn't be as much of a gain as adding another cab would be.

Don't screw with the 4x10. A 2x10 is enough to provide all the mids and more that you would need, but needs to be high passed to do its best.
