Sign in to disble this ad
Ok...so the wife is "allowing" me some money
Already have some spent for another bass and assorted pedals.....will have about $800 or so for a stage rig.....here is what I need

*410
*power {power amp OR head}

*NO behringer gear

thoughts.....USED HLF 410 {Ampeg} Or Hartke stuff
looked at TC electronics, have NO exp. with them
Looked at Peavey headliners....again, NO exp. with them either...

Thoughts?

You basically implied you really wanted Ampeg or Hartke. I feel that this is the best bang for your buck, and I think almost everyone will agree. It doesn't fit the 410 qualification, but another 210 could easily be bought latter down the road.

I know JimmyM has used one of these and loves it. You could get this and the other 210 for right about $800. The possibilities are endless.

Go used, and go Peavey. You will get a lot of bang for your buck. For $800 you can end up with at least a 410 if not two or an 810, and a kick a$$ head. Peavey gear is reliable and sounds great.

Geez, I'd think this thread would be longer when we get to spend someone elses money.

With $800, and a need for gig level volume, I don't think you're going to be able to get there buying both pieces new. Check out the used market for anything that tickles your fancy. If you get a good enough cab deal there, you might be able to buy the amp new or vice versa. I'd be inclined to buy them both used. Well taken care of, clean, used. You'll end up with better stuff. Buying new, you won't get out of the entry-level/budget market.

yup, Will got it there. being patient, but willing to pull the trigger is a fine line, but "new" you probably can't get to where you want to be with GOOD gear. hang in there and search daily, but wait it out. give folks time to make impulse buys with THEIR tax returns, then pounce on a like new peice at a big discount when they figure out they don't want/need/like it.

You can get a Peavey Nitrobass (450) or Firebass (700) head for less than 150 on Guitar centers used site sometimes. Then I would look on local craigs for a decent cab. You can find Peavey 410 cabs or even Ampeg 410 cabs for under the 250 range. If you don't mind Acoustic cabs GC has a 410 on their used site for around 150.

Plus GC offers a 30 day warranty on used gear.

+1

Good strategy. I've got some really nice stuff and none of it cost me very much that way. We're also getting to the time of year when people start selling off Christmas gifts as well because they need the money more than the gear or just lost interest. Good deals to be had on nearly new stuff there too. With some patience, the OP can end up with a pro-level rig for an entry-level price.

If you are set on new you can get an GK 410MBE and GK MB500 for $800 before tax. Plus your whole rig would weigh under 50lbs.

Matter of fact there is a 700 watt at 2ohm Firebass for 149.99 right now on the used site. I would snap that up in a nanosecond.

Might be 15 bucks to ship it.

Go with a used Made-in-USA Ampeg rig. Just my opinion...

I sent in my taxes last week already and already I am thinking of what piece of new gear I am going to get with some of it as well. GAS is really at it's finest around this time of year I will say.

As for the original poster, I too would into the used market. A lot of great gear can be found and had for really decent and discounted prices. Of course as anyone would say if you can make sure you check it out and try it out in person first.
