Suggested Cabinet for a LMIII

Finally went through with buying a LMIII. I’m a big fan of how clean and crisp it is and it was for me to upgrade. It’s really the first professional level Amp I have ever own, and it seems only right that I replace my hartke 410 with a cabinet of the same quality. I don’t know if the 410 I am playing through is made for the power this amp puts out and I’m afraid I will blow it. Also I think I have outgrown the sound of a 410 with metal cups.

The sound I like seems more suited for a larger speaker, I was leaning towards a single 15 inch, but I think having a 212 might be more versatile. I want to try and get a versatile set up, because I’m starting to do more work and play out a lot more. Really I want to do my Pit gig and my rock band gig with the same set up

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good cab to pair with the LMIII?

Wonderful head. If you have one of the older Hartke 410's with the aluminum cones, I believe it is probably at 8ohm cab, so you are most likely only putting the 8ohm 300 watts into it from the LMIII, versus the full 500 at 4ohms. So, you should be fine there for the time being.

The LMIII pairs up very nicely with a lot of cabs, due to its relatively neutral, warm, clean voicing.

Here are some of my personal favorites:

Modular rig Two Bergantino AE112's... punchy, articulate, lightweight.

Full size rig: Bergantino AE410... tight, LOUD (4ohms), 62 pounds, bright, aggressive, but it can be smoothed with just a touch of upper mid attenuation on the LMIII.

Smallest, lightest, deepest, loudest.... The new Audiokinesis Thunderchild... 4ohms, 34 pounds, and one of the new ''super 112's'' that rival a 212 performance.

On a budget... the GK Neo112's are getting rave reviews, and should match up nicely with the LMIII.

if you don't get a thunderchild or fearful or similar, i'd probably stick with the hartke.

One more.... if you want to stay in the 410 format, the new SWR GoLite 410 (in 4ohm version) would really be a nice match-up... VERY lightweight (I think 55 pounds), relatively small for a 410 size box, and a nice voicing match-up with the LMIII.

I think that would be my 'final answer' for a lightweight solution that would keep you in a similar format as what you have, be louder, lighter weight, and more even and articulate.

Hello! It's actually Ken. I have not directly A/B'd these two, so can't tell you with any detail. I have quite a few peers using the 4ohm Golite, and they are all pretty happy. I only tried one with an SWR head, which of course is so voiced that it was hard to hear anything but the sound of that SWR head. However, I was impressed with the volume and general tone... relatively big, smooth and nice air up top.

The AE410 is a punchy, grindy beast, but the LMIII smooths it nicely.

I really don’t want to stick with the Hartke; it’s a Transporter from the early 200s. It isn’t very clear or defined, and with the current set up I have trouble finding myself in the mix with a loud band.

I was leaning towards a 212 or a 115 set up because I wanted to get a fatter more Vintage style Bottom on the sound. I figured that with a LMIII head would let me have a versatile set up.

But I haven’t played any of these cabs before so I am open to suggestions and very willing to stay with a 410 format if I can get a fuller bass with

If you aren't concerned too much with weight, the Aguilar BD112 cabs are fantastic as well. I am using my LMII(and LM250) with 2 Aguilar GS112's, and they sound great with the heads. Really deep and smooth.

I really loved the way a GK Neo 115 III sounded with the LM2. Nice full sound with nothing annoying going on. Had great projection and it was always easy to hear myself.

I run my LMII through an Ampeg SVT410HLF. Plenty of old school bottom end with that cab!

Avatar...great bang for the buck!! I play my LMIII through their neo 210 and it's righteous! I'm sure their 212's and 410's are even sweeter, but someone here must own and love that combination...maybe they'll chime in.

I would find out if LDS could build a 15", 3-way cab with woofer, midrange and tweeter. Attenuators on the MID and HIGH of course. This would allow you could get a "blooming" vintage sound when using the MB's filters, plus punchy, clean and everything in-between! Dr. Bass built a nice one of these but...
NEO drivers to keep the weight down. Maybe removable casters...
If you want a standalone cab, get it at 4 ohms.

Aguilar db212: 4 ohms! all the way
They pair very nicely with Markbass heads!

I use a LM III and an Aguilar DB210 and think they sound great together. Compact too but maybe not enough for your needs, however I'm sure Aguilar's new SL112 x2 would do you.

well why didn't you say so in the first place? all respect to larry, but yeah, i'd get something else, too. his hydrives absolutely smoke. the transporters...well they're an ok budget cab but that's about as far as i like them.
