Suggestions on New Rig

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
Looking to upgrade to a new rig. Ive been talking to Daniel at Port City Amps about some cabs hes about to release and also have been looking into some Orange stuff.

Basically im looking for something thats gunna be able to produce a great classic rock tone but also have some warm mellowness to it.

Was looking into a 2x10 + 1x15 or 6x10/ 2x10 + 4x10

Any thoughts would be great.

Im currently playing a Vintage J style with Nordstrand NJ4SE pick ups tuned to B-E-A-D
So i need something that will handle the low B pretty well

Thanks,
Joe

I say 610. I'm not big on mixing cabs with different drivers. You will definitely get more volume out of the 610 also.

Only thing is the 610 will probably not be the most portable option (if you care about that).

The 410 & 210 option will get you versatility, bring it all for the big shows or bring less for the smaller gigs.

As for 610's I like my Berg NV610. I did have an Epifani UL410 which was a dandy cab & could handle lows without a burp. Lots of options out there & you'll get dozens of opinions on the 410 & 210 cabs. The 610's not so much but there are a few.

Wellll, Joe... get ready for another "mixed cabs versus matched cabs" thread.

Me, I would gladly mix cabs but only if I was using some kind of crossover to separate frequencies. Otherwise I'd go with the 6x10.

Me, I'm aiming for a couple of 2x12s. We'll see how that works out. My two 2x10 rig wasn't cutting it in terms of volume and tone.
