Suggestions for Small, High Fidelity Cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I play Chapman Stick, and am looking for some new cabs. Ideally, I'd love to find a couple of small format cabs to run my rig in stereo with full range and a sound that is smooth yet clear. Hoping to find something that sounds like studio monitors instead of JBL EONS so to speak.

I don't play in front of really large groups or at high volume, so a 1x12 or 1x10 config would be plenty.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Do a search for Thunderchild. Amazing sounding, small, very evenly voiced cab that still puts out the wump. Low end is very controlled, and rolls off around 50hz, which is typically wonderful for live performance, and allows the box to be very small.

If you really want to reproduce the full fundamental of the open E through the open B string, the original Acme LowB cabs are great, and at low volumes, two of the 110's in stereo would probably kill.

The Eon's sound like brittle cardboard compared to either of these cabs IMO and IME

A pair of Duke's pocket rocket T'childs would be very nice at pack up time - but if you need to move the low lows perhaps look at a pair of 12/6+1 fEARfuls.

What Foz said... fEARful might be a bit more cost effective though..

The Bergantino single 12" might work well. Acme is pretty full-range too.

If you can find, the Phil Jones speakers are rather nice for an extended range instrument.

High end is smooth and clear, your melody strings will appreciate it.

4B extension or 6B neo.
