Wanted to finally post some shots of the NOS Sunn 2000s I bought last January from a shop in Chicago. I had seen a mention of it on the Sunn fourms and just had to go check it out while I was on the road. I've spent many many years playing and loving old dusty Sunn amps but knew finding one in factory unplayed condition was something I wasn't going to pass up easily. The shop gave me a great price and was very cool about letting me pay it off as I sold off some other gear so I had to jumped on it. Recently had it serviced with new caps and a grounded cord and couldn't be happier with how gorgeous and balls to the wall it sounds through the Sunn cabs or a 72 Ampeg 810.

Couple of tolex knicks and a small scrape on the faceplate, but other than that it had been sitting in a shop for many years before a guy bought it, left it with his friend, and that friend sold it to me. Mine still has the 2 prong cord, original caps, and original tubes too, but I'm taking itdown to Conrad Sundholm, Mr. Sunn himself, next week for him to go through it. Aren't they just amazing amps? I use mine through 1, soon to be 2, matching 2000s cabs with JBL K140s, and they're MONSTROUS. I usually run mine on 7 or up on vol, bass on 2, treble and contour all up, and with a P-bass run wide open with rotosounds, it's aural nirvana.
Interestingly enough, your chassis is dated to 1970, and yet has the GZ34 rectifiers. The tube recs were supposedly phased out starting in late 68 and in 1969, but they weren't ones to toss out old parts, so you have a bit of an oddity it would seem. I'll be interested to see what year mine truly is, as it also has the tube recs, and thusly I assumed it to be a late 68, but who knows?
Anyways, congrats man, that's a beauty. And if you ever want to sell it, give me a shout. Dead serious, I want first rights if it ever goes up for sale.

D.M.N, very cool that Conrad will be going over your 2000s. Lets us know what tech updates he suggests for yours. May help in what I do with mine in the future but for the time being I'm keeping it with all stock values. Whats the serial# on yours? Not 100% but from what I understand the grill cloth change came in late 69 and ss rectifiers came out in 70-71 |

i also recapped the filter caps with USA sprague atom 600V caps (stock values):

Are you saying this is NOS, as in "It has been in storage since the 1970's"?
That takes me back. I had a 200S head. My buddy had 2000S and Sunn 2X15 cab (probably still does). I was a little envious of him. |
