Sunn amp slaving question

Sign in to disble this ad
Been playing with an idea in my head about creating interesting tones using 2 amps. Thinking something like the Sunn Concert Lead (guitar) and a Sunn Concert or Coliseum Bass head. Run the bass into the bass head, using the Concert Lead guitar head as a slave, and would be using with 2 cabs (both are 2x15). Trying to yield lots of volume and a cool, unique tone. Would this work?

Run the "preamp out" jack on the back of the bass amp into the instrument input on the front if you want the tone controls for the guitar head. If you want to use the guitar head as just a power amp, there should be an input jack labeled "power amp in" on the back.

I'd want the tone of the guitar head as well. So if I did that, would I run both cabs off of the guitar head?

I'd run the bass amp to one cab, the guitar amp to another if you want the tone of both. Another way to go with all this instead of slaving the amps, is getting a splitter pedal to send your signal to each head instead of running through one, and into the other.

I have an AB/Y pedal, so that may be the way to go.
This is just speculation, I don't own either amps. Right now leaning towards finding an old Ampeg V4 and just using that. So far I have an Ampeg B25B 2x15 and an Emperor 2x15.

Get a V4, use both of its channels. Run some dirt onto one of the channels, and boom....

Yeah to get the individual tones from each amp you'll have to use an A/B/Y pedal.

YES. When I played directly into the Coliseum, the sound wasn't great and it had a hum. When I played thru a Peavey Century, the sound was perfect, but not enough boost. When I run the preamp out into the Sunn, it's absolutely perfect....especially thru a cerwin vega folded horn. Outrageous bass and power.....I love it.
