I have been playing several shows lately (usually medium sized venues, and some larger), and my current rig is becoming hard to transport and fit into many areas. I currently play through a Sunn Beta Bass with a late seventies 4x12 cab. The head is amazing. It is only rated 100 watts, but it puts outs at least triple the volume that you would expect a head of that wattage to pump, especially when paired with a Sansamp VT Bass pedal. The 4x12 is a 4ohm cab. It has a great open sound and really pushes air. Unfortunately the cabinet is about the same size as an Ampeg SVT 610 cab and about 10lbs heavier. The head is no joke either, weighing in at (estimating) 30+ lbs.
I was searching the web yesterday and came across the Rumble 350 210 combo. How would this compare to the rig I have now, and to similar priced setups?

Or one of these?

Back then, it was considered some of the best equipment money could buy (and it wasn't cheap). The Fender Rumble is smaller, lighter and probably a tad bit brighter sounding - but I'm not certain that it will move as much air as the Sunn does. By the way - power has very little to do with how loud something plays - speaker efficiency and enclosure volume are much more important |

Anyone have experience with it and would like to share? I tried the 150 at the music store and it seemed very loud (granted the store was void of an audience ) and very clear until the fellow cranked it all the way; at which pointed it started to sound off.
He said they'll be getting a 350 in soon.
Thoughts and opinions on it would be much appreciated! |

The Fender might be easier to transport, but at the end of the day, in my opinion, it's all about the sound. You seem to like your rig already ("The head is amazing"), so why mess with perfection?
But if you do decide to ever get rid of that Sunn rig, let me know

By the way chanson, when I said the head is amazing, I meant in the amount of power, not sound. The head does have a decent tone, but I mainly use my Sansamp VT pedal for tone. So the sound head wise is not a big factor, but I wonder what the difference in sound will be going from a 412(dated speakers though) to a 210 with more modern drivers. I am not sure because I know the VT Bass pedal has that 810 speaker simulation in it, so I do not know how different the sound would be.

Paul | I emailed Peavey about it. They said it was designed for guitar, bass, or organ use. I think that it may have been learned more toward the guitar and organ, but it still has good bass response. As I was saying though with the 810 speaker cab emulation that is in the Sansamp VT pedal, I thought it might have a different effect on the sound (make it sound like a larger cab) than just running straight into the amp.
