SUNN MODEL T- LOOKS LIKE A HELL OF AN AMP

Sign in to disble this ad
but I have questions that i hope you all can help me answer.

1 & 1a- is it a guitar amp or a bass amp (or both) and how many watts is it?

2. please look at the pic below:

it is a portion of the left side of the front of the amp as you face it.

notice it has 5 1/4 inch plug in jacks.

i have never seen this config before.

i think i know what the in's are and i presume "both in" is just a way to have both circuits in use at the same time (brite & normal)-- is this correct?

what has really thrown me are the "out" jacks... what the hell are they for? are they line outs? (these are the bottom 2 1/4 inch jacks in the 5 hole config.

any help would be appreciated.

anybody ever play through one? how do they sound? i presume it to be more watts than either the 200s or the 2000s, but is the sound similar?

It's both a Guitar and Bass amp, and will Work just as well for either.

Roughly 150w give or take a bit, via 4x 6550's.

These are great amps! I remember them from when they first came on the market, I should have bought one then, but could not afford it. Sorry this doesn't answer your questions.

if it's 150 watts give or take, what is the difference between it and a 2000s?

Power amp probably isn't terribly different, but the preamp is totally different.

I had one back in the 70's and gigged it into the early 80's. Yes, the original Model T's were multi-purpose heads, and they were rated for 150 watts RMS output. For Bass I had to run an an outboard e.q. with my Model T head to make it more suitable for the job. The Fender era remake which later became the Bassman 300 is a different amp and not a true reissue. It is superior to the original Model T as far as being a bass amp goes imo. However a vintage Model T head can be some fun for tube geeks.

Model Ts? i got eight of them! does the massive sound i need for my solo shows-which are few and far between because of that issue.
the two outs on the front are not line level-they are guitar level and allow you to chain your amps. loves me the model T

I had an original Model T and it measured about 120 watts on the bench. I also had a 2000S, but never measured the output. Similar output tubes, but I think the 2000S had a bigger output transformer (made by Dynaco), and therefore more low end capability.

Tonewise, I think the 2000S had more punch and presence, and gut-wrenching power. I modded the Model T in various ways to improve the tone---removed the ultralinear configuration, added cathode followers for the drivers, various gain stage mods---but it always sounded kinda "stuffy" to me. If you can find a 200S/2000s i think you will prefer it over the T.
