Suspicious Ampeg 810 cab

Sign in to disble this ad
I am refurbishing a 810 cab that was sold as a "vintage" Ampeg 810. I got the cab for $200.00 and it sounds phenomenal, but now I'm interested in finding out what it really is. The cab is built just like an Ampeg 810 only about one inch smaller overall in height and width. It has two spring-loaded handles inset into the sloped section of the top back part of the cab and a single 1/4" input jack in the upper middle section of the back of the cab held in place by three small screws. The grill cover has a 1/4" wide piece of silver wooden trim around the edges. It has the traditional black tolex and chrome corners with a good bit of "road-worn" tears and scrapes for an old cab like this. The handles are sort of rusty and the old black paint is partially worn off. It does not have the standard towel bar on the back either. I plan to glue down all the loose tolex and paint the cab with some Duratex I have. Any information regarding the true pedigree of this cab would be most welcome!

What speakers are in it?

The silver trim on the grill is like what some older Peaveys had, but, that was only down the sides, no all around. Also, I don't think Peavey did any sealed 810s back in the day?

IIRC, The pop up handles sound like what some of the 80s Ampeg 810s had.

What labels or stamps are on the speakers? That's a good place to start. Did the 80s ampegs have spring handles on the back? I thought they were just recessed, but I may be remembering incorrectly. I know there was a period during the MTI era where they had two handles instead of a towel bar though, so maybe this could be one of those.
