SVT 3Pro or SVT 7Pro?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the market for a new head. I've narrowed it down to either the SVT 3Pro or SVT 7Pro. The SVT 3Pro seems to be the standard in most rehearsal studios in New York. I love the tone, but I have to crank the thing really high to be heard in the band mix. It farts pretty easily too. I've heard stories of the head crapping out easily, farting, low wattage, etc. I have no experience with the SVT 7Pro, but the wattage and reviews caught my attention. I know the 7Pro is a class D, and to my understanding those things are more prone to break easier than other amps. Is that true? I also noticed the thing has a built in compressor, which would be nice if I can make my pedal board smaller and use the onboard compressor instead of my EBS. What are you opinions on these two heads?

The 3Pro would be my choice, and the trick to getting it to open up is to crank the gain, and ignore the "clip" light. Also, go easy on the eq section, flat is best, with just slight bumps in the mids.
