SVT-410hlf or SVT-610hlf

Apologies for starting another 'beaten to death' subject but after reading hundreds of search results I'm asking anyway

After trying so many different brands of heads and cabs I finally ordered what I should have done ages ago.. an SVT-CL
At first I will use it with my existing cab, an Aguilar GS410 (4ohm version) but in the end I want to match it with an Ampeg cab to give it the mojo on stage it deserves.

I already owned both cabs in the past. The 410hlf sounded fantastic with my old SVT-5pro but horrible with my later SVT-4pro and therefor I sold it.
The 610hlf sounded great with my Fafner and LMII but lacked a bit of booty.
Which of the 2 would sound best with the CL?

BTW: An 810 is not an option as it is too big and I would miss the tweeter. A Bergantino is also not an option as they are unavailable where I live and I really want it to be Ampeg.

having owned both simultaneously and comparing the two with my SVT-VR head, i would say that the 410HLF sounds a bit more scooped than the 610HLF. i liked them both alot, but the 610HLF sounds a little closer to my 810E's midrange, so it depends on what you're looking for. although its heavier, i found the 610 easier to move around, since the 410 is so low, you have to really bend over alot to roll it as a 'dolly'.

Also, all else being equal, the 610 would be "louder".

In the new Bass Player magazine, it said the 410 is hard to use the kick back bar with.

If it were me, I'd pair a 1x15 with the 4x10 you already have, rather than another 4x10.

The 610 is quite close to the Ampeg 810 with the additional tweeter an the slightly looser feeling in the low bass. As stated, the 610 has that midrange the 810 is famous for and I don't think you can go wrong with the 610. The low end you want out of that cab is not too useful live anyway. Put the cab closer to the wall if you want more low end. When I am on stage, I make sure the cab is doing well in the mids and highs with some low end. It's more important to hear yourself because the tone you love so much does not always work on various stages. Simply put, the 610 will get you heard on stage.

The 410hlf seemed to have nothing much in the 500-900hz range, and it pushed WAY TOO MUCH low end. Hence why I got rid of it.

Buy the 610hlf and enjoy it!

bummer that you cant get bergantino gear in europe!!!... I've owned a 410hlf and an 8x10 and they are nothing special compared to my NV610... Smaller, lighter, and it sounds the way an 810 should sound... Super tight low end, super punchy, delightful singing midrange with great highs-

When switching to an all tube head you might want to look at something with more clarity than the ampeg line... The warmth of those tubes really cause you to lose some of that clarity/crispyness that pushes you in front of the mix and is characteristic of a good solid state (or hybrid) amp (its for the better for sure... Just make sure you get a cab that can compensate). Love the heads (I got the VR), but I never liked the cabs.. Too muddy and undefined for my taste... I could see the ampeg cabs sounding good with solid state/hybrid heads (maybe it would take the edge off of that crispy quality and make it sound a bit warmer), and they sound good when not in the mix, but the second my drummer and guitarist started playing, its was just a bunch of undefined, low-end boominess... Pretty useless for my style of playing.

But, of course, to each their own!

I never owned any of those two but rented both extensively. The 610 was by far my favorite although its size made it problematic compared with the 410. I drive a sentra sedan and that 610 messed up the inside of my doors a bit.

I've always played both cabs with a svt-cl and they both sound fantastic. The 610 sounds fuller imo, and as others have pointed out, it's very close to an 810. IMHO the 610 to me sounded better than its bigger sibling

I'd say 610.
