SVT-4PRO rack options?

I read a few threads about the vents on the side of the SVT4 and wondering if an SKB Roto 6u would have enough room on the sides for the vents to breathe. Any other options? This wont be gigged....I am a living room bassist at the moment.

I have my 4 Pro in an SKB Roto and it works just fine. It is my main gigging amp and I have not had a single problem. I would always be careful though, if it starts acting up, take it out and make sure it isn't over heating.

When I had my 4 pro I put it in a standard 4 space skb rack. A few guys I know who have them thought I was nuts due to side vents and clearance. So I took my cordless drill and drilled about 60 holes in the handle recess on the right side.

I used a Road Ready 6 space rack with mine, keeping a space with a vented panel above it and then a Furman power conditioner in the top space. I never had any issues. When I would play outdoor shows when I knew the weather was going to be humid/hot out, I would have a small clip-on fan that I would clip on to the back of the rack, aim it at the amp, and plug it into the power conditioner. Again, never had any problems with overheating.

I mounted mine in a wood type pearson rack and it got hot on the first gig, never cut out but it was hot! So I cut a round hole in the side and covered it with an old fan guard screwed into the wood, the hole is directly inline with the exhaust on the amp. The other side of the rack I took the carrying handle and cut out the metal flat area. After doing this, it has never got hot like that ever. The Pearson racks come either with or without covers as well, and theyre cheap compared to some it seems............

This was my friends answer:

Vent panels (with speaker cloth glued to back...filters dust and hides view) above and below head. Back is sealed with fans at top pulling hottest air out. Temp probe is inside the head (attached to top panel). Never exceeds 84 degrees.

I like! using the fan at the back of my rack, I've never experienced a single problem. Especially playing at an outdoor venue in Phoenix last year with the back of the rack facing West in 107 degree heat.

I REALLY like the idea of a temp probe. I will definitely check into that!

This is partly his idea and mine. He was nice enough to allow me freedom to "do whatever".

It is a SKB 8 space rack (1SKB-198U). The front panels are Raxxess EVP-1's. Rear panels are Raxxess flat blank's one 4 space and one 2 space (dont remember what part #'s).

The fan panel is from ProCool Fans in Illinois. As I recall it was a SP480XT. You can check them out at www.rackfans.com. They are not cheap but in a dead quiet room at full speed they are whisper quiet at 1 ft away. They are variable speed and you can set the temperature s when they come on and go off.

As far as the 4 space panel with the cables. That is just a connector from the hardware store for electrical wire...something you would use on romex cable to secure to an electrical box. Buffer the cables with rubber and tighten down. No cable will get pulled out ever again. Leave about a foot of cable inside the case (if a snag occurs the cable is not gonna come out of the back panel of the amp). Run your power cables out through a larger version of the clamps, buffer the cable where the clamp is and tighten.

FYI...the SVT4-Pro is pretty deep so we had to use right angle connectors for everything on the back panel, including power cable. We ordered the power cables (he got custom length cables for all the gear so there isnt 6 foot of cable for every power cord...more like 12-18 inches of power cords) from www.stayonline.com.

Any other questions...just let me know!

I forgot...

The front vent panels have black speaker cloth on them. Cut to fit and glue to the back (inside) of the panel. Looks neater that way and also help keep dust and dirt out.

Basically it sucks "fresh cool" air from the front top and bottom...across and beside the amp...and pulls it out of the back.

Take the top off the amp and secure the temp probe to the inside of the it and put the cover back on.

This way you get the temp INSIDE your amp...the most important place.

Great info. So those fans...how are they powered? Just plug them in to the power strip (Furman or whatever).

Also, that SKB comes with the rails on the front and rear?

Thanks. I might just get a flight case w/o rear rails and mount the fans in the front. Of course I might not even need fans if the entire back of the case stays off....that does look awesome though!! They have LED fans too.
