SVT 6, 6 string bass eq?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just cant seem to eq my tone to make my B string on my 6 string Ibanez sound not muddy.
Im new to this whole 6 string bass thing and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to make it sound more clear.
If there are any tips on how to set the EQ for a 6 string. I know the SVT 6 can make the bass sound great I just dont know how to get there!

Thanks

Also, what strings? I found the strings that came with my Ibanez 6 to be too thin on the low B for it to resonate very well, resulting in a tone that was lacking strength and definition.

GK Neo 410.
And stock strings.

Every other bass I have (4 strings) sounds incredible and the other 5 strings sound fine...the six just is to muddy.
Ive got a lot of options on this amp as far as eq'ing is concerned so I know I can make it sound good.

Perhaps the first thing I should do is get new strings?

New strings would likely be a good start.

Wouldn't hurt. Or you could try some of those Bass Brites. Won't bring them back to brand new status, but cleans them up really good and brings back a lot of the zing.

Does that work on coated strings?

The B string always dies first. Try new strings...

I think they ship with Elixir Nanowebs. I'm fairly sure mine did, anyway, though I could be wrong.

Elixir always have a slightly dead sound to me that happens to last a very long time. I don't like em. If I want dead sounding strings I'll stick with old broken in flats.

Anyways. You mention that the low B doesn't sound good on a 6 string, but it sounds fine on a 5 string. The number of strings makes no difference and it stands to reason you should be able to get the 6er to sound fine as well, so I'm thinking it's something to do with your bass.

First thing would be get some new strings. Also, is it active? If it is, how are the controls on the onboard pre set?

I did get new strings. It did make a difference.
And your raise a good point bass god, I have also noticed the input volume on the bass is severly less then any of my other basses.
It is an active bass.
Its one of the cheap Ibanez 6 strings, Im ordering a 6 string BTB and I feel that (and hope as Ive heard great things about them) that this problem will go away with a much nicer bass.
