Its been a few years since I have owned a SVT and recently aquired one again and played it tonight at a gig and now I remember why I love tube amps.
It just rocked tons of tubey goodness!
Just thought I would share a quick post and a quick pic of my rig tonight as it has inspired me again!

For a long time the only experience I had with Ampeg in a non-store setting were the SS combos and I formed the opinion that I didn't think they were anything special. Not bad... Just not special. Now that I've had a good amount of time with my SVT I'll say that I'll probably not gig with another head unless the SVT craps out and I have to use my Bassman in a pinch. It just has the tone I've always wanted.

Nice set up! I love that jazz bass also. Looks early 60's?

The funny thing is I have been using small micro amps like Orange and MarkBass because of easy to carry and now I have the soundman and the guitarist both offering to help load in the bass rig because they also loved the tone.
Maybe I can bring the whole world together 1 SVT at a time ha ha.

The bass was a gift from a relative when I turned 16,I had my choice of a car or this and I took the bass gigged all summer and bought a car. That was 27 years ago.

The quality of Ampeg's Cabs are great. Now,I had to return some of the high priced heads for one reason or another. I am set with what I want to keep: SvT4Pro,SVTCL and 810E,410HLF cabs......As a back-up I also have an svt-400T which was a real find on Ebay.......If you are going in the direction of a big rig,Ampeg has to be considered......

right on! i've actually had audience members who don't play an instrument comment on the positive difference in tone when i use my svt/810, and that's using a pa. that's why i have to laugh at comments like "the audience doesn't care or know." ok, some don't, but it turns out that many of them do. i still have a micro rig for the times it's just not practical, and the b-15/215 still gets the bulk of my day to day stuff, but i bring my svt a lot more than i ever thought i would.

Funny you mentioned that Jimmy because lastnight I had a fan of the band who comes and sees us as much as he can and he commented that my bass sounded huge and asked what was different.
He is not a musician just a fan of music so it was nice to hear an un-biased person throw their 2 cents in.
Last time he heard the band he would have heard me using my Terror (Orange) which is a fantastic amp also but the SVT just put the bass tone over the top lastnight.

there you go. i'm sure you sounded just great with the terror, but it's really hard to argue with the svt performance when you get that kind of reaction from fans.

Not to mention that the guitar player on my side of the stage who is a complete tone nut (Splawn) was totaly loving it to the point he was standing in front of my rig during HIS solos.

You will probably be waiting a long time for that to happen.

mine's been going for over a year now with no problems had to get a couple of my recones repaired, but that was more a fault with the reconer, who blames the kit he was supplied.

Smart choice, the car would have been long gone by now. Wished someone would give me a gift like that.
