SVT 7Pro v GK 1001RB II

Hi Ladies and Gents,

I am looking at a new amp to power my GK Neo115 and Neo212 cabs but I can't decide on which of these amps to go for. Common sense tells me the GK but I have been offered a really good deal on the 7Pro so now I am undecided. Sadly I will not be able to try them because I live in a very rural area and the music shops are miles away.

I play alternative rock and dub and like a bit of growl in the mix when playing rock and of course clarity at the lower end when playing dub.

What are your experiences of these amps so that I can get a little guidance in what direction to go.

Regards

BH12neil

Honestly, either will work well for the stuff you're wanting to do. The Ampeg might be a hair better for a clean low end at higher volumes, but I can see either working really well for you. It just depends on which sound you prefer.

SVT 7Pro vs GK 1001RB II is sort of like Maserati vs Ferrari. They are both in the same league. The GK 1001RB II has been around longer, so perhaps has a bit more of a historical reliability track record, if that's important.

All my equipment is GK and can vouch for the extreme quality of that brand. But lately, all the venues I've been playing that have Ampeg as their backline, has left me very impressed with the Ampeg sound.

For the cabs you have, you should also at least check out the GK RB 700 II. Yes, on paper it's lower output, but the difference in the real world is really small... it's quite capable of being a stupid loud amp. One thing it can do, because it's slightly less amps, is "hit the rails" for that GK growl sound sooner than the 1001RB. If you primarily play small to medium sized venues, and you're looking for that sound, that might be important.

I think at the end of the day, you really can't make a "wrong" decision on this one.

+1 2 very capable amps, (3 if you add the 700RB), but it'll come down to your own preferences. I'd go with the 700RB myself. Plenty enough juice to make your speakers sing.
