Question SVT/Ampeg Offer Questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I had an offer that I cannot refuse today. An 8-10 Ampeg cab and a SVT (?) 2x450 Watt amp with a pre - all rack mounted and a lot of other stuff I don't understand yet.

This is for a price I cannot refuse to accept knowing from whom and why I'll get it.

He tells me the head is pre-Korean. I imagine this is good - no?

Also that the head can run mono 900 Watts or so and in the other condition it is 450 Watts. Sound familiar?

What am I getting into here?

Hi,
Really all comes down to the price you get it for. I say that because in most cases, anything with the Ampeg name is a wise choice! Or course you have to check that all the speakers are functioning etc... As far as mono, it is a stage bass rig and 450watts is all you'll ever really need at the end of the day. Unless of course you want your ears to bleed as part of the show! LOL I still maintain the pa should do most of the work! What you want on stage is punch and fatness! What is the deal you are offered?
Peace

It is kinda low - no, make that very low for the $$ involved. Below $700.00 for the whole package, including an M/B thrown in ('Rocker' is in my mind - whatever that is - and I am sure that's what he said).

The cab has a lot of pro-USA gigging miles on it and the head has a full re-solder for extra security of the circuits - but I'm not really clear if that was on the M/B or this one.

It just came off the road and he says it isn't needed any more.

There's a pre-amp of some sort in it and a lot of other stuff in the quad rack/case that I don't remember.Never used a rack before - and not sure that I need one now - but, hey! Ya know!

All eight of the drivers are pretty new - replaced on the road - and not played much since then.

I'll get more info and maybe pick it up next week.

Should I be excited or not? Today has been a good day.

sounds like a 4 pro and an 810e. yeah, i'd say that's pretty good if that's what it is.

Hey Joe,
$500 would probably be something to get a chubby about.
$700 still sounds a tad high to me being that it went through some changes and was a bit of a road hound! Remember, most used Ampeg SVT cabinets (8 X10's) in fair condition go for about $400 every day. I see them a lot. Think about this: If you picked up a used 200watt head for $200 that would be decent at best considering you can get a brand new head for $270 like the Micro I just bought. So that would bring you to your $700 which is what you can find all day long! Guess I really don't know enough of what you are getting to really jump up and down about... Think you have to do some comparison shopping in your local area regarding used gear adverts. e.i. craigslist, penny saver etc... You may be surprises whats out there for sale these days in such tough economic times. As far as the other gear he is offering, if you don't know what it is or does, you probably don't need it!
Peace

I get to play on it this next week - and I'll get more of an idea and make a list of what's involved. So far it's unseen - but intriguing at least.

Remember that it has both the heads and a lot of other pre-amps 'n stuff with it.

Will this be a good bedroom player? <I didn't say that - did I?>

I trust the guy who's offering it to me and believe that he's going to make the deal good for me - so I'll pay close attention to the accessories with it and get some pixs and ID what's there.

I'll get this all posted as soon as I know and I'll get the pixs uploaded when available.
