Question SVT-CL + Acoustic B410?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've recently acquired a recent model SVT-CL, which I'm running into a GK Backline 115 cab, and an old EV 1x15 cab that belongs to a friend. I had been planning to get an Ampeg 4x10 fairly soon and run it with the GK 115. But, the local GC has the Acoustic B410 for $199 this weekend. I'm seriously thinking of getting it - the used Ampeg 4x10s they have typically are priced at $500.

Is anyone using the Acoustic cabs with an SVT? Anyone have opinions on how they compare with the Ampeg cabs? This would be for a moderately heavy riff-oriented rock three piece, with the bass tones slightly to moderately overdriven most of the time (yes, I'll have the horn turned off).

I would definitely suggest this. I've ghot an Acoustic combo that I've fried the horn several times by using overdrive. Sounds great without the horn, and it's a good thing, cuz they can't handle much.

If the Acoustic 410 is rated at 4 ohms you should be fine, but I suspect it's an 8 ohm cabinet. The SVT output is 4 ohms or 2 ohms so you'll need either one 4 ohm cab or two 8 ohm cabs to pair it with.

Yeah, that and the fact that distortion through a horn sounds atrocious.

It's 8 ohms, but I'll still be pairing it with the (also 8 ohm) GK 115 - sorry if that wasn't clear.

No my fault, you said it I just didn't read it.

I'd see nothing wrong with trying out the Acoustic, for the price they charge it's a safe experiment and although I've only played their stuff in the noise of a Guitar Center I liked their tone.

A 410 can easily be twice as loud as a 115, and can have much more wattage. Having two different cabs can also cause phasing problems. I'd use the EV with the Acoustic, and not use the Backline. I've not used them, but they are the lowest line of cabs for GK I believe. 15's might have the more old school sound you want, but turning off the tweeter will also help.

dude, just get the ampeg cab. you can find 810's all over the place for cheap. and if you absolutely have to get a 410, plenty of 410hlf's to be had used as well. don't waste time with cheap cabs when you have an svt-cl.
