SVT-CL preamp tubes

Sign in to disble this ad
Folks...I've been told that I need to replace my preamp tubes. (Just got this head a couple of months ago.) Tech said it looks like the power tubes were replaced pretty recently but the pre-amp tubes haven't been touched.
Why kind/brand do you seasoned veterans recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Unless you are experiencing problems within your pre-amp section, in all likelihood your tubes are fine. They don't really do a lot of actual work. Just 'cos they may be old doesn't mean that they are no good.

I am experiencing problems. Amp sounds like total crap. Low or high volumes. Tech said the pre-amps tubes are shot.

Is he full of ****?

IMHO your tech is trying to milk you for some $.

Because it pretty much just sounds like "you need new tubes, i won't say why, and you wouldn't know why even if i tried to explain it". When in actuality the part may be fine. Such a practice is common in the automotive industry.

Now, if they are microphonic, or not working, that is entirely a different story!

Why and who told you that you "need new tubes"?

*EDIT*

Nevermind!

I didn't see your post until after i posted mine. Disregard what i said entirely.
