SVT-CL Repair in Memphis

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I know there's a 'master thread' floating out there about this, but I couldn't find it in a search.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable tube amp repair shops in or around Memphis that can fix Ampeg SVT's.

Thanks,
James

And just by extension, is there any real way to tell whether or not a tech is certified? Is there any way to check credentials to make sure the person handling your amp is actually capable of doing the job without causing more damage? Just curious...

Dude if the guy damages amps he's supposed to fix he wouldn't be in business.

True, but when I'm about to put $1,000+ worth of gear in the hands of someone I don't know and have never met before I'd much rather be safe than sorry. I want to deal with someone known and respected, and unfortunately google searches haven't helped me find anyone I feel safe with.

The SVT has been around almost as long as electric bass. If a guy is an amp repair man at all, he's probably seen tons of them. If you want to gauge his knowledge without rudely asking for a display of credentials, ask him a technical question you already know the answer to and see how he handles it. Maybe something like, "I was thinking the problem with my amp given the symptoms might be along the lines of..." If he answers, "clearly that is not the reason as the electric flux across the cross sectional area of the diodes would be..." I say go for it. You get the point.
