At least those for sale on CL look "realistic. I took the girlfriend to a festival show in Dallas last weekend and one of the acts had HUGE fake amps flanking the drummer... I still don't "get it" Are they being sarcastic? Do they think they're fooling anyone? Am I just not "in" on the joke?
Disclaimer: not a huge fan of this band... Neon Trees, Social Distortion and Weezer kicked butt though....

It's product placement and marketing but seems so counter intuitive to me... do Mesa and Hartke think casual fans are that stupid? seems like a big gamble of marketing dollars implant the name in the uninformed (or stoned) in the audience... I kind of had a better opinion of Mesa than that...
It's like a real life "Guitar Hero" thing... all the lame sponsorships in those games... the patterning of the controllers- i get to a point, but really... it seemed really cheesy...
On an "up" note... with the exception of that fake huge Hartke rig, the only other bass rigs I saw that day were Ampegs and Aguliars. That made more of a "marketing" impression on me than those 2 big high chairs.

| | | | C'mon guys it's all in the pants, right? It's a rock show and all is fair game even if it is slightly offputting to the sane. Check out Tommy lee's huge dummy kick at at the 2010 Download Festival. Just ridiculous but it is what it is

Make Johnny Rockstars amp big enough for the kids to see, kids will want it,Mom & Dad will probably buy it. Is this any different than taking 25 background dancers on the road? What's that got to do with music? It's all show business and it makes it sell. At least you can see the products name plain as day. I remember back in the 70's squinting to see what my heroes were using. This solves that problem.

Actually I once had the idea to find a classic amp chassis (i was thinking vox at the time) and then stick a microhead inside it so i'd have the sound I want, along with the look of a classic amp! |
