SVT II Flat EQ settings?

Sign in to disble this ad
With the Graphic EQ off and the hi and low buttons not on, running just the parametric....what is considered "flat"? I run mine pretty much with the controls at noon but I know on any SVT thats not considered flat.

Anyone know, or have a link?

I'm not sure (and dont really care) what experts consider flat, but I usually run my SVT-IInon pro, bass/treble tone-knobs centered with its mid knob boosted just only a little bit, where the Frequency selector doesn't make much of a difference. I hardly ever use the EQ and play this through a NV610, but I might prefer totally different settings if I was using your Mesa cab.

I pretty much run everything straight up. I might actually turn the mids down a half to one full tick. Depends on the bass though.
I used the graphic EQ when i was in a metal band. I like having it available. I dont use it now though. Mid selector stays in the middle.
I remember seeing something a long time ago that was technically supposed to be flat Ampeg settings. I was really supprised at the settings. Its not a big deal though. I just wanted to check it out.

flat

The supposed flat settings for my vintage svt which is very similar to yours is as follows. in clock terms

Bass - 11
mid - frequency at the 220hz setting, 10:30
treble- 1
low and high switches off
So, it starts off pretty flat anyway, with just alittle boost in the low mids.

Thats something along the lines of what i remember seeing. As for the mid selector obviously I have the 5 way as opposed to your 3 way. But I just leave it on 3. Seems to be the most promenant. I did change it last night a couple times mid song. Havnt messed with it in forvever. Position 1 wasnt tooo bad either. Didnt care for 2, 4 or 5 though.

svt

When using my 70's svt into and 8x10, (4 regular drivers and 4 jensen mods) I set bass and mid at noon, treble at 10:00 and bright switch on. Thats nice and clear. At lower volumes I may even bump up 800hz alittle.

I always ran all controls at noon and with the mid selector at position 3 with no buttons on. Always sounded good that way to me with whatever I ran it through. I think my least favorite cab with it was my 810e, actually. It had 4 MOD10-50's and 4 stock Eminence. However, the 810 killed with my 1001RB. Go figure...

I just got a SVT II (non-pro) JimmyM told me to EQ it thus ... "when you set all the controls at noon on an svt, the frequency response has a big midbass hump starting at 100 hz, and it's a gradual diagonal line downward from there on out. so you have to twist eq knobs. i'm able to get a pretty close to flat response out of most svt's by putting bass on 11:00, treble at 2:00, mids 2:30 or 3:00 @ 800 hz (middle position). you might try that as a starting point and tweak it to your own tastes from there. don't be shy with those knobs ..." I don't use the graphic EQ on my II because then it is no longer the same circuitry as the original SVTs. Cheers.

Last night i had bass on 12:30, Mids on 11:00, Treb on almost 1:00. Mid notch on pos. 3. Buttons off. No graphic.
I turn the mids down a touch cause I'm using a P bass and it can get a little overly mid heavy even for my taste.
