SVT II in stand-by

Sign in to disble this ad
I run a SVT II non pro. At the end of the night it gets pretty hot. I’ve been putting it on stand-by to cool down. Is it safe to unplug my cabs, or does the amp need the speaker load in stand-by? It would definitely save some time if I could get everything wrapped up while it’s cooling down.

Thanks!!

at the end of the night, just turn it off. it'll cool down on its own just fine, and putting it in standby just delays it cooling down. you can unplug the speaker with it in standby, though.

Thanks Jimmy!
I thought in standby the fan would still run, and help cool it down.

Yeah, the fan runs but the the heaters are still on. When you're done, just turn it off.

You should avoid moving the amp for several minutes though. Give the filaments some time to cool down. Power the amp off, wipe down and pack your bass, pull and pack cables, etc

If you are on 230VAC, the fan is OFF in standby............... unless you change it out for a 230V version.

You can turn it off, it will still cool down almost as fast, because the tube heaters are still "on" in standby.

If she's doing the melto super hot thing... If you are running the amp in a small rack, buy from GC or MF a dual fan panel and suck the hot air out of the rack. It will help the amp run a little cooler and costs less than $100. Will make it last a lot longer.
