SVT III PRO or MB 500

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got rid of my 410 and ordered a GK neo 112 II..... I have an Ampeg SVT III pro that doesnt sound bad but I played a GK MB 500 and was impressed but it was through a Berg HT112ER. I like mids and not alot of clank I go for more of a fat slap tone. Should I hang on to the Ampeg and test it through the GK cab or trade it in on the GK head, or will the Gk+GK combo have alot of clank to it without some major EQing? I prefer to set the controls all at 12 oclock.

thanks sands

Night and day different heads, if you ask me. I really like both. You already have one. Try it for a while, and think about what you don't like about the sound. The midrange control of the SVT is great. The clank is in your treble boost, and how loud you have the horn. To me, there is more midbass punch in the GK, but the Ampeg has a sound to it that I just dig too. Many people do. Remember things sound different in the band mix vs the practice room.

thanks, I dont play in bands anymore just personal enjoyment. What i really liked about the GK when I played it was everything was set flat and that was it, it was the sound I wanted. The ampeg I have to use the graphic eq, I can see the ampeg being more versatile though.
