svt-iip or svt-di for iem's?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking for a new di to use for church. Currently I have been using my vt bass into the church radial di but I'm not completely satisfied with the vt. What difference is there in the di sounds between the iip and svt di? Is the svtdi a better di and will it sound thicker/bigger? I like the idea of having the tone shaping with the iip and it's cheaper but are their di's any good? Thanks

You could try plugging directly into the Radial. It's free and might be more to your liking.

I definately want the ampeg sound. However i just thought does the svtdi run off a power supply or phantom power?

if you aren't getting the sound you want from the VT bass then maybe an ampeg sound is not really what you are after...?

The VT is a great piece of gear for coping an ampeg tone, but it's not for everyone's tastes.

I would go with the SVP-CL myself. Or a Jule Amps Monique, but they're not cheap. OTOH, I love the VT and think it does a bangup job for that purpose.

Is this for FOH, yours, or both?

I assume you mean SVPPro? An SVT-II Pro is a 300 watt tube amp. I'd have no problem suing that in a church setting, so others might

I agree with Jimmy...SVP-CL. I've got one and it sounds fantastic. I use it much more than my SVP-Pro. I've always wanted to try the SVT DI, but I don't need it at all.

Which Radial are we talking here? I've got a Radial JDI and it honestly sounds very similar to the SVP-CL when mixed correctly. It's by no means exactly the same, but for live sound it's awesome.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. Sorry...

Precurser to the pro. I have one.....kicks major ass! (a bit cleaner sounding than my Pro)

yeah the SVTDI that I tried did very little in the way of adding much tubeyness if that is what you are after... You can't expect a single tube in a DI to give you the tone of a full SVT tube head, but I guess it does add some flavour... still I would say one of the preamps will give you a better "ampeg" tone than the DI

Damnit! I've got to stop giving advice.

In either case, with the exception of the used SVT DI in the classifieds right now...I'd think finding either one might prove to be a challenge.

Yea I seen a iip on ebay but seller won't ship international so I just bought the DI in the classifieds. Will see how it goes I guess. I might keep the vt for now and try running it into it. I do really like the vt however I think I like the frequencies on the iip better. I have previously owned one and have regretted selling it ever since. I don't remember whether the DI was good on it or not though

JimmyM-

Unfortunately you cant change the Cl to 240v like the iip and svp's and i have had a iip before and regret selling it.

Note:
I also liked the size of the DI better as I would rather carry that around then a preamp by itself so I hope it works out
