SVT repair update

Sign in to disble this ad
My 73' SVT quit on me last week. After about 30 minutes or so, it lost all bass and sounded very hi-fi, so I took it into the shop to get looked at. The tech there, Matt at Swissvale music in Pittsburgh, told me that the bias was way off and was causing something, I can't remember what he said, to overheat which in turn caused the power tube sockets to expand and lose their connection to the tubes. He also found 2 weak and microphonic pre-amp tubes which he replaced with new/old tubes made in 1956 by the Sperry gyroscope company in Great Neck NY. Kinda interesting. Anyways, the head is working fine again and actually sounds better than it did when I bought it.

Glad to hear it's running good! Nothing worse then a broken amp.
