svt speaker choice question

Sign in to disble this ad
I was thinking of building a 610 sealed cab to use with my svt. I would like a tone close to the 70's style 810 svt cab. After searching through speaker specs i was thinking of using eminence alpha 10's. They seem to be suited to sealed cabs and have the frequency range that looks suitable. Has anyone ever had any experience with these speakers? Also i can only get them in 8 ohms so the cab would end up being roughly 5.3 ohms. Would this cause a problem using an all tube svt set at 4 ohms? Thanks in advance.

I used to run my SVT-CL with a 5.3 ohm 6x10. It was fine, and I spoke with the ampeg techs who said 5.3 shouldn't be too much of a variance from 4 ohms. However, if you're planning on building a cab anyways, why not just build an 8x10? Of all the cabs I've ever played with an ampeg tube amp, the original square-back 8x10s are by far the best sounding (IMO, YMMV, etc) and should be fairly easy to build since it's a square . A lot of the sound of those cabs has to do with speakers as well, but I've heard the that new eminence B810 speaker is supposed to sound pretty close to the original CTS square mag speakers.

I already own an 810 but just wanted a 610 so i could fit it in my car when needed. I wanted a berg 610 but just dont have the bucks right now and can get a set of 6 eminence alphas for just under $300.. I should look and see if i can find those new eminence b810 your talking about. Sounds like what I'm looking for. Thanks for your advice, i appreciate it.

B810's

hit the 10" woofer button and you start in the Eminence List. The B810 is a few speakers down from the top.
