SVT tube trouble...

Sign in to disble this ad
hey,

I have to retube my svt classic and to make a long story short I ended up buying 4 6550's from one store and 2 6550's from another.

i got home and went to replace the tubes but when i opened the boxes is discovered that I dont have 6 6550's, I have

3 JJ tesla KT88's
2 sovtek Kt88's
and 1 sovtek 6550WE

Apparently somebuddy switched the boxes.

From what i hear Kt88's and 6550's are very similar, but these tubes are obviously not matched.

I am assuming that these tubes can not be put in the amp together safely but i just wanted to check before
I have to make the 1 hour drive back to return them.

If they cant be used together does anyone know a good online store to buy tubes in Canada?

Sorry don't install those. I am not a big believer in tube matching but those are widely different in operating character.
Check out: thetubestore.com - Audio vacuum tubes for your amplifier.
Also http://www.tubesandmore.com/ one of my favorite haunts.

+1 on that...... matching isn't necessarily required to a gnat's whisker, but you have no right to assume those are even CLOSE.

How lucky do you feel?

if i were you i would return all of them and order a sextet from TC Tubes - specializing in vintage vacuum tubes

i got a pretty well matched sextet of tungsol reissues...well my tech said i got a good set of tubes and they sound nice.
they shipped fast too.
