svt-vr preamp

Quick question following an unsuccessful search. I found alot of answers, but they where conflicting.

Can anyone tell me which tubes in the preamp affect which channels? Recently got a straight back 8x10, and my svt-II just kills my svt-vr. The II is creamy and full, where as the vr is kind of nasally, lacking satisfying mids. I am figuring its just the preamp tubes, as I have never liked sovteks when overdriven. CH 2 sounds good, so I am just trying to whip channel 1 into shape.

I see John through some sick NOS tubes in his, but those are not in the future for me after looking an some ebay prices Figured I'd by a few different one (tung-sol, jj, new mullard) and see what sounds good in v1, just need to know which other control ch1, and use the rest down the signal chain.

IIRC, V1, V2 and V3 are for channel one, V4 is for channel two and they both go thru V5, but i'd have to look at the schematic again to be sure.

Try a GE 5751 5-Star in V1 and see if you like. I found that tube to be pretty meaty in that spot. I think those are fairly reasonable price-wise.
