My SVT-VR replacement arrived today directly from Loud. The first one, the last one the retailer had in stock, was one of the Dec. '07s with the bad ground issue and had a terrible hum. I'm happy to say this one is so quiet, you can't tell it's even on after you take it off Standby. The fan is also whisper quiet; I had to look to make sure it was working. And, as everyone says, the VR sounds fantastic. I use a Bergantino NV610, a great cab, with Fender P's and J's. The Loud tech said I would be getting one of the new Korean VRs, but this one is Vietnam-built from Oct. '08. I'm really happy with it.

looks like a little patience and perseverance paid off. alot of people would've judged it on the bad apple that you first got. |

The set up really rocks with passive jazz and pbass and sounds equally good with warwicks and double humbucker botiques and Stingrays. I haven't found anything yet that doesn't sound good with it.
I've even thrown my Les Paul guitar (dual humbuckers and an acoustic piezo pick up) and a my vintage fender mustang surf guitar (with reverb pedal) at it to see what it can do. OMG - I had no idea a bass set up could make a guitar sound so good.
I'm trying to get up enough nerve to connect a keyboard to it just to see how that sounds (probably will blow the windows out of the house).
I just love it, for both guitar and bass.
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for good info on tube swaps.
Keep rockin. |

Anything special to look for? I think I saw some Sylvanias at one place where one type was "long plate" and one was "short plate"?

IMO, sylvania 12AX7A's are great sounding tubes in an SVT. and while i'm not usually a fan of GE preamp tubes, i do really like GE 5814A's for the 12AU7's in a VR. |

I used the 2-in-1 spade connectors which made it really easy; didn't even remove the ties, so I can put it back if need be.
