SVT-VR Tone Settings

Sign in to disble this ad
I just recently purchased a The Ampeg SVT VR Head and 810 cab. I haven't had the chance to spend a lot of time dialing it in. I was curious as to how other players set up their sound. I use active Warwick and Spector 5 string basses. Suggestions? Thanks.

You'll probably find that centering all your tone knobs will get you very close as a starting point, and then start by tweeking your mid knob to taste.

Anderbass is right. My knobs are usually flat with a little tweaking in the form of boost on either the bass or mids depending on the room or which bass I am using. There really is not a bad tone on this amp, I used to tweak it more until I realised it simply does not need it. By the way, IIRC there is a thread somewhere on this topic.

i go nuts with the tweaking because it doesn't have enough treble or midrange for me set flat. i run treble at 2:00 usually, mids around 2:30-3:00 at 800hz, and bass between 11:00 and noon depending on the venue. i like a fairly flat response out of the amp and that is the best way i've found to get it. used to split signal into both preamps and blend them to taste, but i can get the same sound i like by tweaking the controls so i don't do that anymore.

I competely agree with Jimmy. I have a SVT II and i use almost the same settings: bass 11-12; mids 2-3at 1600 or 3000 Hz and treble on 2 o'clock.
