Anyone un-ported an SVT 410 HLF and happy with the results? I'm thinking of covering just 2 to began with. Gotta lose some of that "boomyness". Looking for feedback before I start.

you generally don't want to change the porting of a cab. the cabinet is (at least supposed to be) made for the speaker, and changing the cabinet is only going to make the speaker work worse.

to get rid of boomyness either cut a little bass, make sure the cab isnt right up against a wall or in the corner, or get the cab up off the floor a little bit. You should try that first.

you'd have to raise it about 3 feet to lose floor coupling. i get them occasionally on gigs and cutting bass tends to work well for me.

ACOUSTIC floor coupling, you mean, not mechanical coupling. Sorry, I've been reading a lot of old posts from you and BFM lately, and I'm feeling rather proud about having finally figured out this little discussion topic, thanks to you guys, of course.

I was just happy when this "coupling" concept finally clicked for me this week, after years of misunderstanding it. Finally, I stumbled upon some old posts while trying to figure out how large I could go on some casters for my cab!

Regarding the original topic, Trace Elliot actually used to sell port plugs for some of their cabs, so the player could mess around with tuning. Not sure what the results were for those who experimented with that. I have sealed of some ports on a couple of cabs I've owned over the years--an Ampeg 1x15 and an SWR 1x18. I was not happy with the results in either case.

Thanks for the replies. I've also been reading the threads on how to set up my SVT 3 Pro to get the most out of it. I've had the amp for years but until lately I've used old black faced Showmans or Model T's over JBLs.

I'm still learning. Dave

All you'll accomplish is to totally screw up the works. Using a parametric EQ to dial out boom is the better option.
