SVT7-Pro - A few questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm considering the SVT7-Pro as it seems like what I'm ultimately looking for. None of the stores around here carries this model in stock at this time, so I'm completely relying on TB'ers here!

After playing my SVT3-Pro last night through my Bergantino NV215, I'm totally convinced I just need a little more punch/power, and a little cleaner probably wouldn't hurt either, so the 7Pro seems like should be a good match - The lightweight factor is definitely a plus as I can hand the amp to girlfriend and I'll haul the berg late nights when done playing a gig...

My question... Does the AUX/RCA Stereo Input on the back play what's plugged in in conjunction with the main instrument input on the front, or does it cut out the main input and just play what is plugged in the AUX L&R jacks? (#27 on the manual).

This question is for the Tubearoos... what is that single tube actually controlling? I know the SVT (the big boy) has several Pre-amp tubes, and each has a function or two... Any clarification on the one in the 7? Does it just color "all" frequencies?

Finally.... worth the upgrade from a good-ol reliable USA made SVT3-Pro, and will it do well on a sealed 2x15 cab?

Thanks!

The RCA's mix with your input signal. You will need a separate volume control on the device driving the RCA's.

The tube colors the input. I play a 18v active bass and can get a pretty good warm overdriven tone.

There's a lot of usable power in the 7 pro, sealed cab or not.

the tube is a preamp tube, which has a pretty significant effect on tone compared to without it. other tubes in the preamp are usually just to control the eq's.

Before buying my 7pro I tested it against a 4Pro and a 3pro through the same cab and bass changing only the 3 heads. 4 and 3 Pro have a little more eq options due to the additional slider eq but 4 and 7 sound pretty much alike - the basic Ampeg eq will shine through. When I owned the 3 Pro I did use the slider eq but I think I was wasting lower frequencies. I got the 7 Pro and don't regret it save for that it wouldn't do 2ohms. Very portable, high powered and great tones. I will get 2 8ohm cabs soon.

Thanks for the replies and links. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one.

These Local stores (GC & Sam Ash) should know that I'd buy one today if they kept it some in stock
