SVT7 pro vs. '70's SVT - anyone done a comparison?

All the comments in pablomigrane's great review thread about the 7 sounding so much like the all-tube SVT have me wondering.

After years of playing various amps/cabs, I finally settled on a early SVT and 610AV.

I had an american made 8 pro - and while it was the closest I ever found to the all tube SVT, I just couldn't get *that* sound out of it. As a result, I always lugged the SVT and ended up selling the 8 pro.

Any comments on the sound of the 7 vs. 8 pro in terms of replicating the all tube SVT sound?

Anyone done a direct comparison?

There is a reason the all-tube SVT's haven't been discontinued...and that's it. I would recommend the 7 Pro to anyone who wanted an SVT-like sound but didn't want to lug around the big stuff, but despite significant advances in SS technology to sound like tubes, of which I consider the 7 and 8 Pro at the forefront, there really isn't a substitute for tubes. So if you favor the 70's SVT over the 8 Pro, it'll be same story with the 7 Pro.

Thanks Jimmy.
I assumed as much, but after reading so many comments, I wondered if they were closer to nailing it.
Looks like I'm going to stick with "hauling my tone."

I guess it's going to depend on what "that tone" is for you. I will find out tomorrow if it has "that tone" for me as mine is scheduled for delivery.

They HAVE got closer at nailing it. & for a clean tone, the 7 pro IS very close, but crank an all tube SVT & u got a world of difference.
And nothing will compare to 6x6550's except.......
The MESA Walkabout & 7 pro are my 2 picks for getting THE CLOSEST to all tube sound & feel outta a light style amp.
& the WA will do a lovely grind if you dial that in, where the 7 pro will just give a light, but sweet, fur of an overdrive.
