Switching from MB to Genz Benz... volume question

Sign in to disble this ad
So my dilemma is this:

I just recently got a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 combo with the stl12-t cab. I love the combo, but I definitely need at least another 12 to get it down to 4 ohms, thus bringing the amps wattage from 350 to 600 I believe. I'm wondering, If I were to get another stl12-t or similar cabinet (possibly maybe something like an Aguilar GS112NT) would it at least keep up with my current rig, which consists of a Mark Bass LMII on top of an Ampeg SVT 410HLF? I haven't yet had a chance to compare the LMII to the Shuttle 6 through the same cab, so any insight on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

The best thing you can do is get another 12 same as you have now and forget the "low ohms, more power, man" thing. More speakers gets you a helluva lot louder than more power does and more of the same speakers gets your tone you have now, just louder instead of the crapshoot that mixing speakers is.

Just sayin'

It would likely get you something quite different than a 410HLF which to my ear is low-slung, muddy. Powerful but can't really hear what you're playing, just notice the bottom fell out if you stop, kinda thing.

I'd suggest a Genz Benz NeoX 112. Essentially it's the same cab you have, but you'll be doubling it, and yes, going from 8 to 4 ohms. Plus it just looks so much better to have matching cabs.

FWIW I gig with a NeoX 212T, and I've NEVER fallen short in the volume department. I generally run at about 20% of my 600w amp's capability.

Thanks for the responses guys. I know, increased power means less than increased speakers. The increased power is just a bonus, but I realize the extra 250 watts only works out to be slightly louder to the ear.

I also would rather get a matching 112, but considering that I'll have to use the money I get from selling my 410hlf, which I expect will fetch about $400, I'll be limited on what I can purchase. I might just wait around and see if anyone sells a Genz Benz 12 sometime soon through the classifieds, but who knows how long it could be.

Thanks again for the input. Any one else who would like to add anything?
