SWR 210 cab build

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys!! Looking for some suggestions here. My gig rig consists of 2 GB neo2x12's and a GB gbe 1200 head. I don't always need both cabs but I tend to bring em both anyway when there is room. We have to load and reload out gear at our practice space so I only bring one cab to rehearsals. Its still way over kill as we like to practice at low volumes.

So I have this old SWR workingmans 210 cab out in the shed that has a blown speaker, maybe two. It seems like a fairly well built cab. I'm wondering if it would be worth while to replace the 10's in the cab with higher wattage speakers, preferably making it a 4 ohm cab that I could run by itself at practice or combine with one 2x12 at certain gigs. I like to have options. So what would the experts put in this 210 cab that would make a nice match with the 2x12. IS a 400 watt or more, 4ohm, 210 cab even possible?

Thanks!!
Budget would be 2-300 american dollars!

If you just want to drop in a set of speakers it probably won't be optimized for the box but will sound pretty good if you are close. It depends on the volume and porting dimensions. There are a lot you can choose from but you might consider a pair of FAITAL PRO W10N8-200's.
Faital Pro W10N8-200 10" Mid-Bass Speakers - Faital Pro W10N8-200 mid-bass speaker . This 10" speaker that has a lightweight neodymium magnet - Faital Pro W10N8-200 400 watt 10" efficiency of 98dB SPL woofer for all high power mid-bass applications.
They are available in both 4 and 8 ohms. At 200 watts apiece there are others that handle more power but these are reasonably priced ($100), crazy light (4.62 lb each), have a good Xmax (4.92 mm), and can take pretty close to full wattage before excursion limiting. The WinISD results are pretty good for a reasonably priced light driver like this.

I don't think so. For $300, you could get an entire 2x10 or even 4x10 cab that's better than an SWR workingman (which was SWR's off-shored brand).

+1 Lots of good used ones on the market too which you could try out and know it's what you like rather than fund an experiment which might not pan out.
