Hey, so today is a sad day for me when the repair guy called to say my pre-fender SWR 750 is totaled. Apparently it received a ridiculously large power surge and the power amp was utterly fried.
Assuming I don't take the outside chance on getting this thing fixed and since the model I had is discontinued, any recommendations for a reasonable replacement?
I see there is a 750x out now, anyone have opinions on this? How would it stack up to the one I had?
My other amp is an SVT II, so I'm looking to hold onto the more hifi sound I got out of the 750, although maybe a bit more rock-style mids would be nice without sacrificing clarity.
Thanks
PS: oops typo in the title =X |

I think the X series was designed more to compete with the ampeg and GK type SS amps, a little more grindiness, less hifi than the earlier SWR amps IMO.
Seems a bit pricey, but a few options: http://www.gbase.com/gear/swr-750-bass-amplifier-head http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac...844474777.html

But, as I said, they aren't hard to find used, and if you like the tone, it may be worth looking into one. And racking it with a voltage regulator. |

Having said that, there are lots of used SWR amps floating about. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
